Base Material: How to Repair the Road Base
A strong road starts with a solid base. Deep potholes must be repaired from the bottom up — not just filled with asphalt. Here's how to do it right:
What You’ll Need
- G5 Stone
- Cement (42.5 N)
- Water
- Wheelbarrow, shovel, scoop
- Ride-on vibrating roller
Mix Ratios
- Small Batch:
1 wheelbarrow G5 Stone (±120 kg) + 4 full scoops of cement + ±7.2 litres water - Large Batch:
1 cubic meter G5 Stone (±1700 kg) + 1 x 50 kg cement bag + ±105 litres water - General Rule:
Mix G5 Stone with ±4% cement and just enough water to make it moist and compactable — not wet like concrete.
Step-by-Step Repair Process
- Excavate the damaged area and remove loose debris.
- Fill the hole with your prepared base mix.
- Rake the surface evenly.
- Compact using a vibrating roller while lightly applying water.
- Cure for 3–5 days, keeping the area moist.
- Apply tack coat before laying asphalt.
Tip: Using base material saves money — it’s more cost-effective than cold asphalt.
